Accessible Activities on Scheveningen Beach

Blog

When summer arrives in the Netherlands, the coast at the North Sea is filled with people sunbathing, walking in the sand, wind- and kitesurfing and chilling in one of the many beach lounges with a cold drink and Dutch snack (‘bitterballen’ are a must-try!). Scheveningen is one of the most popular seaside-resorts and has plenty to offer. Beside the sandy beach and the pier, it has a long promenade with several beach bars, restaurants and shops. Walking down the boulevard, you can spot the fun and somehow grotesque fairy-tale sculptures along the way from artist Tom Otterness that decorates Scheveningen beach.

Scheveningen is one of the districts in The Hague. From Amsterdam there is a direct train going there that takes 52 minutes. After that, tram 9 to Scheveningen Noorderstrand takes you to the beach in 10-15 minutes. This tram is accessible for wheelchair-users, as it has spacious entrance for getting in easily. Check out the train- and tram timetable!

Power kiting

If you want to spend your day active, power kiting might be for you. There is a workshop available with a duration of 1,5 hour that helps you master taking control of a powerful kite. You do that in small groups accompanied by instructors, sitting in the sand, in your wheelchair or in a beach wheelchair. You start with small kites and can switch to bigger one if you want, to experience the power of the wind. Let’s kite!

Cocktail Shaking Workshop

Making chilled drinks on a hot day at the beach is just like paradise! Learn the secrets of cocktail mixing with family and friends during a fun cocktail workshop. After getting to know the ingredients and picking up different preparation techniques, you will shake your own cocktail. The location of the workshop is a beach pavilion that is accessible for wheelchair-users and has an adapted toilet.

Madurodam

In Scheveningen you can visit the miniature version of the Netherlands: the highlights and heritages of the country are represented as 1:25 scale models in the park. It is an entertaining program with your partner, friends or with your family; there are a lot of playful activities to do with children. Madurodam park has good accessibility with wheelchair accessible restaurants, adapted toilets and disabled parking spaces. Assistance dogs are allowed in the park. Caregivers who accompany you can enter free of charge. The park is located halfway between The Hague Central Station and Scheveningen Beach on tram line 9.
